Downtown library tours
Spokane Public Library’s signature Downtown library, located in the heart of the central business district and adjacent to government centers, Spokane’s historic civic district, and the Spokane River and Falls,affords an enriching environment for learning and exploration for groups of all interests and ages.
Spokane Public Library welcomes tour groups to the Downtown Library to view the facility and learn about the wide variety of services and amenities it offers, from superb permanent art and distinctive architecture to one-of-a-kind collections and highly skilled staff. A tour of the Downtown Library is designed to enhance the visitor’s understanding of the Spokane Public Library’s mission, fundamental commitment to service, and excellent resources.
Guided tours are provided by staff members who are well acquainted with the facility and who are happy to answer questions about the architecture, art, services, and policies of the Library.
How to book a tour
To arrange a tour of the Downtown Library, email us or call Customer Service at 509-444-5300 at least two weeks prior to your desired tour date, and leave a detailed message including your name, telephone number, today’s date, and when your group would like to tour the library. To minimize disruption for other library customers, tour group size is limited to 30 people (or one school class plus chaperones) in any given hour. If you would like library cards at the time of tour please indicate that when you book your tour so we can have them ready.
Children’s Tours
Several types of tours are available for children
Preschool tours
Preschool StoryTime tours can be arranged by calling Customer Service at 509-444-5300. Very young children will benefit most by becoming familiar with their neighborhood library.
Toddler and preschool storytimes are also offered regularly at all library locations, including Downtown. No appointment is required for regularly scheduled storytimes. Please call Customer Service at 509-444-5300 or visit our StoryTime! page for more information.
Downtown Library tours

1st & 2nd graders
These tours feature a brief building tour and a StoryTime! including information about basic book care. Library staff will conduct the StoryTime!
Grades 3 – 12
These tours usually take 40 to 45 minutes and include all public areas of the library.
Tours for adults
Tours of the Downtown library are open to organizations, clubs, retirement homes, and other groups. These tours focus on the architecture, permanent art, materials collections, and special services offered by the Spokane Public Library.
Tours are a worthwhile activity regardless of season, and the Library welcomes tours throughout the year.
