Community Court
On December 8, 2013, the innovative criminal justice initiative known as Community Court opened its doors at the Downtown Spokane Public Library – a cooperative collaboration that has resulted in low barrier access to social service providers of every variety. The Spokane Municipal Community Court seeks to reduce and properly address quality of life offenses in the downtown area by utilizing a collaborative, problem-solving approach to crime. Since 2013, Community Court has served more than 1,130 individuals on cases arising out of low level criminal violations or quality of life crimes in the downtown corridor.
The foundation of Community Court is a collaboration of court and social service professionals, dedicated to helping participants reach practical and targeted solutions. Community Court is held every Monday starting at 10:30 am at the Downtown Library.
