Library News October 2016

Stop by the Downtown Library!

At the beginning of each month, the Spokane Public Library newsletter is highlighting a different branch. This month’s focus is the Downtown branch. Check out some of their new developments and fun events.

Buy books and support your library

img_2901The Friends of the Library Fall book sale is right around the corner. Looking for some new or gently used books at a great price? Most items at the book sale are $1 or less. Plus, the profits earned at the sale are reinvested in the library.

Starting Thursday, October 20, through Saturday, October 22, be sure to stop by the Downtown Library to shop for books.

Already a 2016 Friends Member? Stop by on Wednesday, October 19 from 4:30-8pm for the presale. You can also renew your membership or become a member at this time for $10.

Can’t make the sale? The Friends of the Library has a permanent bookstore in the Downtown Library where customers can purchase used books at bargain prices.

On my days off I enjoy baking, reading, and listening to live music when I get the chance.

Join us in congratulating Marcia for being a STAR employee the next time you see her!

I am a Town

i_am_a_townIn this workshop led by Spokane Poet Laureate Laura Read, you will write poems about specific places in Spokane that are significant to you because of the memories you have attached to them. The class will include example poems, generative exercises, and feedback from a supportive community of writers. It may also lead to your poem becoming a piece of public art. Workshops are offered on October 11 and 18.
