We know that these are trying times for so many Inland Northwest residents, and we want you to know that the library is an integral part of the City of Spokane as we work together to provide you with the resources you need. Spokane Public Library is extending our hours at many of our branches during the windstorm recovery so please check our website daily for any updates, www.spokanelibrary.org. You can also call us (509) 444-5300.
Additionally, we are adding many programs and movie updates on a daily basis. Our online calendar can tell you what’s happening at each branch. www.spokanelibrary.org/calendar/. If you know of someone without power still, please share any of this information about our programs and open hours with them.
In the meantime, we also want to be a key information provider with our partner, Spokane Public Schools so please see their message below for the most recent update on school closures.

District 81 Update #2 for Monday, November 23rd
A decision was made at approximately 1:45 p.m. today to cancel school for the remainder of the week. This includes Express before and after school child care. High school extra-curricular activities will continue as scheduled.
This decision was made after speaking with city officials, including Mayor Condon, Fire Chief Bobby Williams and representatives from Avista Utilities. The major concern is that many sidewalks are still unsafe for students to use in walking to school, due to downed power lines and debris in the path.
School makeup days have already been built into the school calendar. Makeup days for the five missed days of school will be as follows:
- January 29th
- February 12th
- March 11th
- May 16th
- June 16th
The district will continue to provide warming centers, along with breakfast and lunch, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the following schools:
- Rogers High School
- Ferris High School
- Glover Middle School
- Salk Middle School
- Grant Elementary School.

An update from the City of Spokane
Spokane is #InlandStrong and as we continue to reach out to our friends, family and neighbors here is some information for you to note:
- We are continuing our efforts to go door to door knocking on doors of residents without power. If you know of someone who needs help, call 211 and they can get you pointed in the right direction.
- We continue to clean up storm debris and downed trees are being cleared.
- We are expecting snow tonight and wind from the northeast.
- Please check on your neighbors, and family and friends to make sure everyone is safe and their property is secure.
- Our police officers have stepped up patrols in the darkest neighborhoods and will continue to be present.
- Residents who have blocked alleys, please put garbage and recycling carts on the street for pick up.
- Residents who need to clear storm debris from private property are encouraged to refer to the list of licensed arborists at spokanecity.org.
- City officials are asking citizens to assist their neighbors who need help clearing their properties.

If you have questions in regards to permitting needs after last week’s wind storm in regards to:
- Damaged fence repair needs
- Roof repair
- Electrical re-connects
- Other
Call the City permitting hotline at 509.625.6999.
Electrical re-connects are being given the highest priority. For a damaged fence, if the fence is the same height and you will use the exact same posts, you do not need a permit.
If you see a substantially damaged building that appears unsafe, call the City Code Enforcement hotline at 509.625.6083 or email codeenforcement@spokanecity.org.
