Grand Coulee to Grunge Exhibit

grand-coulee-to-grungeJoin us for the Grand Coulee to Grunge exhibit located on the 2nd floor of the Downtown Library.

From a Starbucks store in Malaysia to a 747 on a tarmac in Antarctica, Washington is everywhere. We built “the biggest thing on earth.” We ended a world war. We introduced air travel and helped put man on the moon. The fruits of our labor appear on dinner tables around the globe. Even Northwest grunge became iconic worldwide.

On loan to us from the Secretary of State’s office through April.

Writing in the Margins: Transforming the Stories We Tell About Race

jessica_maucioneGonzaga University professor Jessica Maucione examines texts that celebrate and explore white characters, in contrast to—and at the expense of—black and brown characters whose dehumanization is sometimes blatant, but often incredibly subtle. Maucione discusses ways we can seek out narratives that counter this white-centered approach, with the goal of making us more responsible consumers of dominant narratives, better role models, and more connected human beings.

Join us on Monday, February 27 at 6pm at the South Hill Library to hear Jessica’s presentation, sponsored by Humanities Washington.
