Now a devoted Spokane resident and paper enthusiast, Illback grew up in Seattle and Nagoya, Japan, where she first learned the basics of origami and fell in love with Japanese prints.

“I love the color and texture that can emerge from combining many small pieces into a larger work, custom-fit to the space. I practice traditional origami, generally avoiding scissors or glue (with a few exceptions for display purposes), and prefer using recycled paper. I find the process of preparing and assembling the pieces quite meditative. Origami is a glorious intersection of art and geometry.”
