“In all of my work, I find myself relying on a foundation of setting rules or simple guidelines that help dictate and give structure to the direction in which a painting or sculpture will go. Rules as simple as drawing thirty random lines and twenty triangles varied in size to construct a base composition, or giving myself a limited color pallet of only primary colors. Often times when working with clay, I will limit myself to only being able to utilize a specific amount of clay, or starting off with a preliminary form and then further developing the piece by working intuitively. By creating those boundaries, it always fascinates me how essential they are in my creative process and the ability of making a successful piece.”
